The Senegal national football team, known as the Lions of Teranga, recently announced the appointment of Lamine Sané as the U17 coach. This decision was made by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) on April 19, 2026, following a rigorous selection process that reviewed over 400 applications. Lamine Sané, a former captain of the Lions, brings valuable experience, having led the team to victory in the CAN 2023 and to a quarter-final finish in 2025. This appointment comes just 24 days ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations set to take place in Morocco from May 13 to June 2, 2026. The FSF emphasized that only applications submitted in accordance with the official procedure were considered, and that the senior men's national team is not affected by this renewal. Meanwhile, Ali Mal has been appointed head coach of the local team, while Serigne Saliou Dia and Malick Daff continue with the U23 and U20 teams respectively. The FSF is focused on continuity and the development of young talents, with Ousmane Diop leading the U15s and Mame Moussa Cissé at the helm of the senior women's team. These changes aim to strengthen training and keep Senegal among the top football nations in Africa.
